EP: Quanna – Mistress Valentine
The Mistress Valentine EP from Quanna is one of the most surprising projects you’ll hear all year. Not just because of the racy content, but because it introduces listeners to Quanna’s alter ego, the sexy Dominatrix and all-around bad bitch best known as Mistress Nicky Valentine. This reinvention from boom bap lyricist to a sexy dominatrix is one of no effort as Quanna has always delivered a carefree, no holds barred persona when it comes to her music. Paired with the colorful production provided by Popstar Benny, the rapstress welcomes listeners into the bold, sensual world of Mistress Nicky Valentine where every wish is at her command.
The 3-track EP opens with “Kink”, which is a true embodiment of sex, lust, and fantasy with Quanna dropping references of BDSM and other sexual innuendos throughout. She paints the picture of life as a dom, expelling experiences with some of her clients and their bizarre fetishes. “Kink” is followed by a fan favorite, “Hybrid”, which Quanna released this summer along with the official visuals. This was our very first introduction into Mistress Nicky Valentine and the first display of Quanna’s duality as the down to earth skater girl to the sexually liberated dominatrix. Rounding out the project is “Blue Bills”, an upbeat offering that is full of energy, bounce, and charisma that has Quanna dropping off some of her best bars.
While Mistress Nicky Valentine is new to us, she’s been a part of Quanna for years as she navigated as a Dom in New York City while also building up her repertoire as a rising rapper. Now through this EP, she reclaims herself in every sense and boldly shows off how layered and multifaceted she can be as a rap artist. She’s preparing to take her talents to Austin, TX for SXSW as an official performer and may or may not be bringing Mistress Nicky Valentine.
